Heracles-Clock

Globe clock with a statuette of Heracles, Augsburg around 1620, signed H. Reinhold.

Indications: Hours via turning finial figure of a knight on top, minutes, zigns of the zodiac, month via sun disc moving around the celestial globe, length oft he day in hours, date, weekday with signs oft he weekday, striking hours and quarters, celestial globe with star-signs.

Gilt brass and silver, dials silver with translucent enamel.

 

Two such miniature globe clocks are known. The second one, signed H. Buschmann – also around 1620 to 1630, Augsburg – is located in the Beyer Museum (Zürich). There are several further monstrance clocks with a statuette of Heracles which carries neck-watch style cases.
